Most people confuse psychology with psychiatry. Psychiatry is a branch of medicine specialising in mental illness, whilst a Clinical Psychologist is an expert in human behaviour. At times naturally occurring behaviours (such as eating, fear or anger for example) may happen too much, too little, or not at all. In very simple terms it is the Clinical Psychologists job to assist in understanding how this problem has developed, examining emotional, behavioural or physical factors, and assisting the client in reducing or enhancing behaviours to achieve a positive, healthy and satisfying lifestyle.

Many people are quite naturally anxious about seeing a clinical psychologist, it is not the sort of thing you do every day. There may be frightening or embarrassing areas of your life which are hard to talk about, this is quite natural. It is your consultant's job to understand this, ensure that you are put at ease, answer your questions, and enable you to understand and achieve a sense of confidence.

Appointments are offered during daytime or evening hours. Where necessary domiciliary visits may be arranged.
